In the mid-1800s the crofter A. D. Hockman lived in Lögdeå. He invited the travelling preacher Lindström from Agnäs to his home to talk about faith. One question would not let go: "Are we really properly baptised?"
The question led to prayer, Bible study - and baptism. In 1861 seven people formed a congregation: Nordmaling Baptist Church.
The early years were not easy. The congregation was tested by opposition and division, yet it grew. Revival came in the 1920s and 30s - in 1928 alone, 83 people were baptised.
Sunday school began in the 1860s. By 1935 the congregation's Sunday schools had 200 children across several villages. Youth camps, choirs, scouting and prayer meetings shaped generations.
In 1930 Englis Olsson was sent as the congregation's first missionary to Congo. Since then, people from here have served in Congo, the Central African Republic, Brazil, Nepal, Albania, Greece and India.
Through the second-hand shop Bra & Begagnat, more than three million kronor has been raised for children's homes and health care - donated things turned into hope.
Today we gather in Salemkyrkan at Mo 30 in Lögdeå. During the pandemic our services had to move online, and broadcasts are still part of everyday life alongside gatherings in person.
The youth work continues with camps, gatherings and a new generation receiving the faith.
Seven people form Nordmaling Baptist Church - no building, no pastor, but a burning hope.
The first church of their own is inaugurated in Mo, after 31 years of meetings in homes.
A new, larger church is built on the same site. Salem Mo is completed.
The congregation calls its first pastor: Gideon Johansson.
Englis Olsson is sent as the congregation's first missionary - to Congo.
The present Salemkyrkan is inaugurated.
The pandemic hits. Services move online and the congregation stays together at a distance.
The sanctuary is renovated. 160 years are celebrated.
